Hair Raising

Washing your hair is part of even the most laid back guy’s personal grooming regime. As is, probably, the odd quick trim at the barber’s to keep growth in check. However, chances are you just use whichever shampoo is there. Take just five minutes now to consult our quick guide below and get the product right for your hair – hey presto improved performance with no extra daily time investment. Easy!

Normal: clean, manageable hair that just is. The wearer of normal hair has no immediate hair management issues in mind.

Oily: fairly self explanatory – often oil or grease in the hair is concentrated at the roots. It is good to have some natural oils in the hair and so do not choose overly harsh products to treat oily hair as, somewhat counter-intuitively, if you strip the hair of all its natural oils then it will produce more to compensate.

Dry: dry hair is often the result of over use of the hair dryer or too much time in the sun or sea. The problem with dry hair is that it tends to be dull and lacking in body and shine. Dry hair is also often accompanied by a dry scalp which may flake a little giving the appearance of dandruff.

Dandruff: no-one wants it but we all seem to get it now and then. However, often it’s just a dry and flaky scalp that is fairly easily treatable with regular use of a good quality shampoo and conditioner. We recommend Kerastase Dermo-Calm. Real dandruff is recognizable as yellow or gray oily powder, it is relatively rare and requires a medical prescription for effective treatment.

So, you’ve got clean hair. What’s comes next depends to some extent on your length and style. Short hair can be given body, strong hold and shine, as well as a wicked smell of confectionary, from a little bit of Fudge. Fudge is one of the best styling creams out there.

Longer hair, or hair simply long enough to brush, will require a good brush. Regular hair brushing, despite often being regarded as the premise of the fairer sex, keeps your hair healthy and shiny by distributing the oils throughout the length of the hair shaft. In this way it combats both oily and dry hair. If you choose to use a comb then choose one which glides through your hair, whether wet or dry, without scratching your scalp or snagging your hair.

Brush your hair when it’s wet. The resultant ‘tugging’ strengthens the hair follicle and massages the scalp – both of which stimulate growth of healthy hair. Need we say more!
